Change of Ownership
A final post from Emma as the transition of ownership completes at Woolpit Clinics. Services remain unchanged and we welcome Tina Penistone as the new owner of our valued clinic.
Read MoreThis service is led by the private counsellors working from Woolpit Complementary and offers specialised therapy that includes Person Centred and Psychodynamic Counselling for all ages, Play Therapy for children, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and EMDR (Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing).
Person Centred Counselling is an opportunity for the individual to explore themselves in depth and consider their experience of the world and how they fit into it. It can help to loosen a feeling of stuckness, to become more fulfilled, to reach achievements and gain a greater understanding of self.
Psychodynamic Counselling focuses on bringing the unconscious mind into conscious awareness. This allows difficult, painful and often deep-rooted memories and experiences which may be unhelpfully impacting on current life and relationships to be resolved.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps clients to understand that it isn’t what happens to us that is important but our perception of situations. Therapy formulates the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviour and considers how we can change unhelpful cycles in our lives.
Play Therapy in the same way that talking allows adults to express and consider their world, children use play to explore their world and gain a sense of their own identity.
EMDR (Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing) is used to treat a wide range of psychological difficulties that typically originate in trauma, such as direct or indirect experiences of violence, accidents or natural disaster. The experiences outlined above often lead to a post-traumatic stress disorder diagnosis, for which EMDR has been recommended by the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
The above therapies can be helpful for those experiencing anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, relationship issues, panic disorder, depression, phobias, feeling sad, family issues, separation and divorce, postnatal depression, bereavement, child related issues, low self-esteem, emotional abuse, PTSD, anger management and many more emotional or mental health issues for both adults and children.
There are numerous pieces of research which acknowledge that the therapeutic relationship is healing and results in positive change. If you’d like to find out more, you can call us on 01359 408 011 or visit the BACP website.
The Woolpit Counselling Service is structured around the individual. Each person will inevitably present very different experiences and requirements that will influence the type of support needed.
For this reason, each person will have the option to have an initial consultation with Woolpit Complementary. This will be free of charge and is offered in person or by phone to establish a possible plan and provide an opportunity to understand how the Woolpit Counselling Service could help.
Additionally, our therapists can provide free 15-minute consultations via phone, to give you the chance to speak with them directly, prior to your first appointment.
The first session with a therapist is used to establish how they might work together. All contracting of the boundaries of the work is negotiated and agreed with each individual and can be renegotiated during counselling. Most commonly sessions are weekly and last for 50 to 60 minutes. It is important that the client feels confident in being able to openly explore whatever they wish to and are under no obligation to continue if this is not the case.
Further information about what to expect from counselling or CBT can be found on the BABCP or BACP websites.
As professional counsellors we are always working within our ethical framework and this means that we have our clients at the centre of our work with their best interest at heart.
Within this framework there may be times when liaising with other agencies, such as GPs, is of benefit. This is always done within our boundaries of confidentiality.
You can book an appointment by calling us in confidence on 01359 408 011. Alternatively, you can email us through the website via the contact page which is also confidential.
If you have any queries or you are not sure if counselling or CBT could be the right thing for you, call us. We can provide a free 15-minute telephone consultation, at a time that suits you.
