Sports Massage

What is Sports Massage?
Sports massage involves soft tissue manipulation and exercise advice to reduce physical aches and pains. It is beneficial to any individual regardless of sporting involvement as it can provide relief for stiff & sore muscles caused by exercise, stress, poor posture and work/daily activities.

A range of techniques are used to loosen tense muscles and other soft tissues, to improve function and decrease pain.

What are the benefits of Sports Massage?
Sports massage is beneficial pre or post event and can be used to treat muscular aches and pains, therefore aiming to maximise performance. It can also be used for relaxation and maintenance as an integral part of a training regime. Your practitioner will recommend weekly appointments if you are experiencing a particular problem or 4-6 weekly sessions if you are attending for general maintenance.

I have been treating a great number of athletes over the years, including marathon and extreme distance runners, tri athletes and iron man competitors as well as rugby players, body builders, competing horse riders, the list goes on.. Hard training can cause some problems, but with regular massages, stretches and an educated approach to your chosen activity, most issues can be kept to a minimum or avoided all together.

And for those not overly involved in sporting activities but who feel aches and pains for other reasons – for examples spending hours sitting at a desk or having a physically demanding job like gardeners or builders, the benefits are just the same.
