Silver Sherpa - image 2Philosophy

We believe in supporting the traditional craftspeople of Nepal through working with trusted local designers and makers, to craft amazing contemporary jewellery keeping traditional skills and professions alive and vibrant.

The Jewellery

Silver Sherpa - image 3All of our necklaces, rings, pendants, bracelets and earrings are made by hand in Lalitpur, Kathmandu. The jewellery is exclusively 925 stamped Sterling Silver complete with UK hallmark (Edinburgh Assay Office).

The silver is combined with semi-precious stones of the highest quality. The small artisan workshops in Lalitpur make tiny quantities of high quality jewellery, therefore most of our pieces are one-of-a-kind.

Silver in Nepal

Silver jewellery has been made in Lalitpur, ‘city of arts’, for over a thousand years. Traditional skills of the craftspeople of Kathmandu (both men and women) have been developed and passed down, generation after generation. Nepal is slowly losing its traditional industries, like jewellery making, but with your support we can help these skilled people to thrive in the 21st century. This is especially important in the wake of the April/May 2015 earthquakes that decimated large swathes of Patan and Lalitpur.

Silver Sherpa - image 1Nepali silversmiths have always been renowned throughout South Asia as artisans without parallel. Their creations were highly prized and traded extensively with Tibet, Bhutan and many other Himalayan kingdoms and remote communities.

Stones native to the mountains of Nepal include Topaz, Amethyst, Garnet, Coral, Sapphire, Turquoise, Ruby, Lapis Lazuli, Smoky Quartz, amongst others.
