Uplift your spirit with beautiful aromatherapy blends this winter
The power of aromatherapy is often taken for granted but the reality is that our capacity to recognise and respond to a wide variety of scents is somewhat of a superpower. Aromatherapy can help us to relax and unwind; to invigorate; and to remember.
Often, rather than using a single fragrance, an aromatherapist will blend essential oils to encapsulate a full body of aroma that supports and resonates with their client. Here are some recommended blends, from aromatherapy and massage therapist Megumi Readhead, that you can try at home with the aid of a diffuser:
Festive blend: scent the house with this festive blend for a Christmassy feel.
- Orange Sweet (Citrus sinensis)
- Clove (Syzygium aromaticum/Eugenia caryophyllata)
- Frankincense (Boswellia carterii/B. Sacra)
Lemon Ginger Honey blend: with the sweetness of Palmarosa, it’s like smelling a favourite winter warming drink.
- Lemon (Citrus limonum)
- Ginger (Zingiber officinalis)
- Palmarosa (Cymbopogon martini)
Beat the Winter Blues blend: on those cold dark days, this can help you to focus better and feel energised.
- May Chang (Litsea cubeba)
- Black Pepper (Piper nigrum)
- Basil (Ocimum basilicum)
How to buy essential oils

Make sure the essential oil you’re buying has the correct Latin name.
